Masco ME27N PA Amplifier Modded for Guitar

A Classic American Vintage Tube PA Amplifier From the 1950s Let's Convert it into a Guitar Amplifier

This Masco ME27 PA was made in the States in the 1950s. It was bought to me to be modded into a guitar amplifier. The customer wanted more gain from this amp, which was more suited to Harmonica than guitar. The customer had this amp imported from the States. The mains supply is 110 volts. A step-down transformer is required to run these types of amplifiers in the UK. I have seen on some of these amplifiers, where they have changed the power transformer for a UK 240 Volt type. This is a bad idea in my opinion. It's better to use the original Power transformer with a step down from 240 Volts to 110 Volts transformer.

Most of these amps have Octal tubes in them, and they are generally exceptionally clean looking amps, almost factory fresh. Probably because most of them have been sitting in churches for so many years in the States. If you can stump up for the import costs, then you will have a really good quality guitar amp. The transformers on these old amps are of the finest quality.

Watch the videos. Part one, goes through the amp, having a good look at the quality of its manufacturing, the tube set, and what mods we plan to do the amp.

Part Two goes through the mods and a couple of tube changes. At the end of part two we have one smoking hot guitar amplifier.
